My Life Before & During Lockdown

A guest blog by Ishraat Bhuiyan. A student from Urmston Grammar School who recently took part in the DEVA/hack.

Hi, I’m Ishraat and I will be telling you a little about my video!

The main theme for our DEVA/hack project was about our life in lockdown. There are so many different themes that could have been explored, however I decided to centre the video around my life before and during lockdown. The reason why I decided to do this was because prior to lockdown, my life was moving at such as fast pace.

I was supposed to do my GCSE exams this year and every single day would consist of me going to school and then coming back home to revise. Within that time, I gave up all my hobbies, because I needed to focus on my studies. When exams got cancelled however, I really didn’t know what to do with my spare time, as my life for the next couple of months had been fully planned out.

In a way I kind of struggled to get to grips with everything that was happening around me. But then, I remembered a common saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”, and that’s what I followed. I started to spend more time with my family, took up new hobbies, as well as nurturing existing ones, and participated in some exciting activities such as the DEVA/hack. Long story short, I made and will continue to make the most of lockdown. In my video, I gave the audience a glimpse of how chaotic my life was before lockdown, as well as a view of some of the things that I have been doing in lockdown.

I think my video will have an impact, because many people will be able to relate to it. We don’t realise how quick and chaotic our lives are, until we actually come to sudden halt. It is extremely easy to get carried away by the negatives of lockdown, but you will only be able to make the most of it if you start to making small changes in your mindset.

I have personally experienced boredom during quarantine, but once I started to appreciate the fact that maybe this is an opportunity that I should make the most of, that’s when things changed for me. In my video, I tried to motivate the viewers by telling them to not sit around and watch Netflix all day, but instead to do something exciting and fun, because if you don’t, it will feel like lockdown is a slow moving, never ending phase.

Lastly, I just want to thank everyone at DEVA/hack for letting me participate in such an amazing event!
